Westkey Nonpareil
by Darin Münch
Here's a meditative little piano composition I put together after listening to the haunting soundtrack composed by Gustavo Santaolalla for the film Babel. This one ended up part Philip Glass and part Debussy, particularly in the second half with its suspended chord clusters. I intended to turn this snippet into a longer sonata, but I may have to leave it as is for now!
A Haunted Ship
by Darin Münch
Caution starboard! This dramatic, tormented symphony snippet was inspired by Harry Potter and, curiously, a Jameson Whiskey ad. A decrepit oaken barge carrying a horde of condemned prisoners is ripped apart at sea in this violent storm theme. But is death really the end...?
Strings, Wind, Glass
by Darin Münch
Here's a flowing, whimsical woodwind symphony with twists and turns aplenty. The stacked harmony was inspired by Nobuo Uematsu's Garnet's Theme from Final Fantasy IX. Reminiscent of a cheery, quirky Spielberg number as well, this piece aims for a whispy, windy sound.
Sea String Drama
by Darin Münch
This flowing, lyrical, sea-like minor string drama takes its inspiration from Philip Glass and especially his eerie symphonic soundtrack for The Hours. Oaken ships sail into dark, mysterious waters as this piece echoes from the deep.
Piano & Ride Jazz
by Darin Münch
Another nice piano jazz piece here to complement Old-Time Ivories. This one takes on a quicker pace and a more modern flavor, adding a ride cymbal track and full drum kit toward the end, but it's still pretty laid-back.
Promenade Saunter
by Darin Münch
This happy-go-lucky jazz number is the perfect soundtrack to a walk in the park! Think breezy Parisian boardwalks, doggies-in-the-window, and ice cream under a well-pruned fig tree.
Knotty Woods
by Darin Münch
Here's one that's a little bit eerie, a little bit playful, and a lotta bit mischievous. Sort of an Alice in Wonderland thing, this piece features harp, celeste, flute, and strings in a strange, flowing melody. A subdued intro evolves into an orchestral crest and ambiguous ending.
Grey-Green Garden
by Darin Münch
Here's a nice live piano composition I wrote in the mellow vein of Nobuo Uematsu's Balamb Garden theme (from his Final Fantasy VIII soundtrack). Suspended, dreamy major chords give way to a more tense and determined minor-key break. Dual-tracked piano adds a nice atmospheric effect to this reflective little piece.
A Golden Sunrise
by Darin Münch
Here's a charismatic one I was inspired to write after watching the very charming Scent of a Woman film (soundtrack by Thomas Newman). A gentle marimba and harp melody is quickly interrupted by an excited symphony with places to be. Go on, seize the day!
Spielpizza Symphony
by Darin Münch
Here's another one of my personal favorites... this bouncy, bright symphony calls to mind optimistic Spielberg films and John Williams soundtracks with its driving, percussive momentum and curious, stringy cheerfulness. This was made entirely on Apple's aging Symphony Orchestra sample pack, but it still sounds pretty lively!
